Beijing
We over night in Beijing at the The Peninsula Palace Beijing which has since been renamed The Peninsula Beijing. There is a terrific
night food market --Wangfujing Street Market more -- just a few blocks away. It was amazingly clean and the food was fresh and
inexpensive. Getting to Wangfujing is pretty easy. You can take the subway and get off at the Line 1 Wangfujing (118) station. Alternatively, you can of course take the taxi.
After you eat there are some great small shops to explore, then back to the hotel
for a good nights sleep.

Shopping
- Cashmere: All of the cashmere we say was sold under the Gobi label.
Prices varied a bit, but were about the same from shop to shop. In some shops the
sizes were accurate, in others they were not. One of the sweaters we bought came in
a plastic bag with the following information: Gobi Cashmere; Khan-Uul district 6;
Ulaanbaatar 52, Mongolia, Email: gobimon@magicnet.mn
History and Culture
We met Jack Weatherford in several places in Mongolia and he provided a wonderful introduction
to the land of Genghis Kahn. He was working on a new book and it has now been published:
Genghis Khan and the Making of the Modern World
